HOW TO USE SOFFRITTO

Using Soffritto is easy and convenient. It saves time in the kitchen and it saves money by eliminating the waste of buying vegetables and spices that might turn bad in the refrigerator after a few days. Natural sea salt keeps freshness for months after opening. A great, fast way to add flavor to foods and cook delicious meals; Nonna Iole’s Soffrittos are low in sugars and have no artificial preservatives. Use only one or two teaspoons of Soffritto to add flavor to any meal.

Nonna Iole’s Soffrittos are great condiments also for Vegan, Vegetarian, or Low Calorie diets.

SUGGESTED USE: Cook to 160º or higher.

Stir fry/ Sautéing: Drop a teaspoon or two in a pan with 2 tsp olive oil. Sauté 1 minute. Add cooking ingredients and stir fry covered for few minutes.

Marinade: Let meat- fish marinade in two tsp Soffritto mixed with olive oil and lemon or white wine before grilling or baking.

Bake: Brush 2 tsp of Soffritto over meat/fish and splash with 1 TBS olive oil. Add ½ cup white wine (optional) before baking.

Roast: drop 2 tsp Soffritto in roasting dish and brush 1tsp over roast. Pour 2 TBS olive oil and cover roast half way with red wine. (Add one dry bay leaf) Let roast cook at low heat for 3 hours covered. Keep moist.

Barbeque: Mix 2 tsp Soffritto with ground beef or turkey to make burger patties and grill.

SIMPLE COOKING SUGGESTIONS

{Serving Size: 1 tsp per person} Best used with extra virgin olive oil.

  • Sauté/stir fry vegetables (broccoli, zucchini, asparagus, mustard greens, chard etc…)
  • Sauté/stir fry diced chicken or beef.
  • Use as base for pasta sauces. (tomato, Bolognese sauce, cream corn, zucchini etc..)
  • Marinade or brush over salmon or halibut, add white wine (optional) and bake.
  • Sauté/ Stir fry Tofu with your choice vegetable.
  • Mix with hamburger patties and barbeque.
  • Mix with turkey or beef for meatloaves and meatballs.
  • Use as base for soups, add vegetables and/or chicken.
  • Brown with Roasts or Stews.
  • Sauté before adding to Spanish Rice, Pilaf or Risotto.
  • Boil beans then sauté with Soffritto as condiment.
  • Mix with scrambled eggs or omelets.
